Group B streptococci in the female genital tract.

چکیده
Vaginal carriage rates of group B streptococci among 250 women attending a clinic for sexually transmitted diseases, 123 attending family planning clinics, and 110 in labour wages were 36.0%, 17-1% and 6.4% respectively. The presence of group B streptococci was not associated with a vaginal discharge or the use of oral contraceptives in the non-pregnant women, or with the isolation of Neisseria gonorrhoeae or Trichomonas vaginalis from the women attending the clinic for sexually transmitted diseases. Serotyping showed a predominance of types II and III in non-pregnant women and an overall incidence of non-typable strains of 14.8%. There was no relationship between serotype and antibacterial susceptibility.

Background and Objective: Early diagnosis of Streptococcus agalactiae remains difficult, since symptoms are very nonspecific. Its frequency has not been completely investigated in urinary tract pathogen of pregnant ant and non pregnant women in Iran. The aim of this study was determining the frequency of Group B Streptococci in female patients. Materials and Met...

OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to analyze the ability of septicemic and nonsepticemic isolates of group B streptococci (GBS) to inhibit in vitro the principal bacterial groups found in the normal bacterial flora of the female genital tract. METHODS The target groups were composed of 1) 10 strains each of the following: viridans streptococci, nonhemolytic streptococci (not group B or ...
متن کاملDistribution by serological type of group B streptococci isolated from a variety of clinical material over a five-year period (with special reference to neonatal sepsis and meningitis).
A total of 898 group B streptococci isolated from a wide variety of human clinical sources from July 1967 through June 1972 were typed by the Lancefield precipitin test. Only 11% of the strains were nontypable. Twenty-six percent of the group B strains were from respiratory sources, 22% were from cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and blood, 13% were from the female genital tract, 12% were urine specime...
متن کاملInterrelationships Within the Bacterial Flora of the Female Genital Tract
Analysis of 240 consecutive vaginal swabs using the compatibility profile technique revealed that only 2 bacteria have the ability to be a sole isolate and as such a candidate to be a major aerobic regulator of the bacterial flora of the female genital tract (BFFGT). Compatibility profiles of Lactobacillus and Gardnerella vaginalis have shown that these organisms shared compatibility profiling ...
متن کاملAssociation of viridans group streptococci from pregnant women with bacterial vaginosis and upper genital tract infection.
The prevalence and role of viridans group streptococci in the female genital tract have not been well described. In this study of 482 pregnant women, 147 (30%) were culture positive for viridans group streptococci. Of 392 women with predominant Lactobacillus morphotypes by Gram stain (normal), 110 (28%) were colonized with viridans group streptococci, compared with 37 (41%) of 90 women with bac...
